How much does a dark retreat cost in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and on what terms? We have taken the prices and rules from the websites of the individual operators. For each centre you will find a link to the source and the date we last checked the information. We want people considering the dark to be able to decide on the basis of real information, not advertising.
To make prices comparable, we compare the price of a one-week stay (7 nights) for one person including meals. A week is the most common length of a dark retreat. Where a centre charges for meals separately, we have added them according to its price list. Where the website does not say whether meals are included, we point this out right next to the price. Below each price you can see how we calculated it. Shorter stays tend to cost more per night, and couples usually pay a surcharge. You can sort the table by price, number of Google reviews, name or date of last update, and filter it to show only centres in the Czech Republic or in Slovakia. Slovak centres list prices in euros; the conversion between Czech crowns and euros (switch the currency at the top) is approximate, based on the Czech National Bank’s daily exchange rate.

What to ask before booking
- What exactly the price includes: meals (how many times a day and what kind), the guide and conversations, bedding, transport from the station.
- Deposit and cancellation: how much is paid in advance, until when the stay can be cancelled and how much money is refunded.
- Leaving early: most centres do not refund money if you end your stay early. Think carefully about the length; for a first time, a shorter stay or a week is usually sensible.
- Health restrictions: centres differ. Some do not accept people with a current or past mental illness or people taking medication; others assess each case individually. If you are receiving treatment, consult your doctor first.
- Facilities: private shower and toilet, heating, ventilation or heat-recovery ventilation, soundproofing, whether the room can be locked from the inside and left at any time.
- Guide: how often they come, whether they will talk to you and how you can let them know when you need something.
How the information was compiled
We compiled the information from the operators‘ publicly available websites. Where a website contradicts itself or does not state something, we say so explicitly for that centre. A dark retreat is not medical treatment, and we have not adopted any claims about healing effects. Prices and terms can change at any time, so always confirm them directly with the operator before booking. If you run a centre and have found a mistake, please write to us.
